Our Day in Our Words.....

The Mobile Escape Room came today.

The themes of the escape rooms were Sunkin' Submarines and Tomb of the Pharaoh.

In the submarine escape room it was fun because it was more challenging and the other one was not as challenging.

My favorite was the submarine escape room because it had a laser pointer in it.

While we were trying to turn off the time machine we had to find a bunch of things like, codes and keys.

We had to make our own puzzles in the maker space, and I actually made a maze where a key pops out of it.

Pink shirt day was today at Eric Harvie.   We focused on how to be KIND.

Our day in our words...

In literacy today we either completed our introductions to stories or we began to consider character development.  In Math, some of us explored symmetry while others began to construct their 3D shapes which we will soon be testing.  We were fortunate to have a Peace Assembly today by the Kindness Pod.

Ask me about...

the Peace Assembly we went to today.  Let me tell you about what my favorite part of the assembly was.

Our day in our words...

We switched our day up a bit today so what we usually have in the morning, we had in the afternoon.  This was because we had guest teachers this afternoon while the Hope Pod teachers had a professional development workshop this afternoon.  Grade 4 students completed the Accountability Survey this morning and we all had Inquiry.  This afternoon we did Daily 5 and had time to work on our mandalas in Math.  Some of us who were finished, also played a variety of Math games.

Ask me about...

the questions my group have formulated for our research topic.  We brainstormed these questions to help inform us of what we need to know while we design and create our community.

Reminders...

  • Please study your word lists tonight as we will be having a word work quiz tomorrow.

Our day in our words...

  • At snack time we learned some more French.  We learned how to tell people how we are feeling and to ask others how they are.
  • In Daily 5 we continued to work on writing, word work and reading.  Some of us did our book club.  In my book club I wrote a poem about one of the characters in my book.  Some of us discussed what happened in the past chapter and will be making a web about a main character's characteristics.
  • In Math we continued to work on our shape diagrams for our building challenge that is happening   either late this week or next week.  I think the cube will be the strongest shape because it is made of squares and this is the most stable shape to hold the book.
  • We read about Malala, a person from Pakistan who wasn't allowed to go to school.  She wanted girls to be able to go school.  She went to the United Nations to speak about this.
  • In PE we practiced basketball skills like passing and shooting.  We worked with partners and passed them the ball.  They would shoot and then we had to go to the back of the line and do this again.

Ask me about...

what I am constructing with Mr Campbell during inquiry.  The prototypes we are creating are helping us develop construction skills which will help us when we construct our community.

Reminders...

  • an information notice is coming home tonight regarding our upcoming Mobile Escape Room experience next week.
  • Big Box of Cards fundraiser is still ongoing.  Please return boxes or money depending on whether you are ordering the fund raiser.
  • Thank you to all of you who are volunteering for our Studio Bell Field Trip!

Our day in our words...

  • Today during snack we learned how to speak a little bit of French.  We learned how to say, "May I please go to the washroom?" and how to introduce yourself.
  • In Math, we were given a challenge to build a 3D shape with popsicle sticks and hot glue that will hold a heavy book.  We are just in the designing phase right now.
  • Today in gym, we worked on our passing in basketball.
  • In inquiry some of us went with Mrs. Danchuk and began to research how we can make sure everyone has clean air, clean water and food within our community.  Some of us built a miniature model of a house with a partner.  In Mr. Kai's group we were exploring light and reflection in photographs.  This exploration helped us to think about light and shadow when we create our documentaries.

Ask me about...

what I think the strongest shape will be in our math challenge and why I think it will be such a strong shape.

Reminders...

  • Big Box of Cards fundraiser is still ongoing.  Please return boxes or money depending on whether you are ordering the fund raiser.

Our day ...

It was a busy Friday today!  We began our day finishing writing exciting story beginnings.  We are really thinking hard about how to 'hook' our readers.  In Math we used our knowledge and vocabulary of 2D and 3D shapes to create riddles for our classmates.  Finally we had Wonder Time.

Ask me about ...

my shape riddle.  Can you guess my shape?

Reminders...

  • Please return field trip forms.

Our day in our words...

  • We started off the day with Ignite.  Some of us made a movie called Ghost in the Cellar.  Others of us completed our word work.  I worked on an assignment for my book club.
  • This week we have focussed on story beginnings.  Today we learned how dialogue can be used to start stories.  Then we wrote story beginnings using a sound, an action, dialogue or description.
  • In Math we finished our 3D nets and then we had to write about what we know about these shapes in our math journals.
  • Last but not least we had Inquiry. Some of us brainstormed research questions about protection and shelter.  In Mr. Neily's group we practiced making songs in Garage Band.  In Mr. Kai's group, we filmed some little movies and our theme was late for school.  We are exploring how music can build community as well as technology to document our inquiry learning.

Ask me about...

  • the beginning of my story.  Let me tell you how I was trying to create excitement for my reader.

Reminders...

  • Our annual Winter Sports Day has been postponed until Wednesday, February 13.  The day has been rebranded Winter Global School Play Day.  We would love to have you join us as a volunteer.  The time commitment will be from 11:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  See below for a link to sign up.  Thank you.

  • Please return Studio Bell form and Swimming forms as soon as possible.

Our day in our words...

  • In Daily 5 most of us got new word lists.  Please begin to practice them at home.  If you didn't get a list today, you will get it tomorrow.
  • Next we had gym and we played Polish Handball.  We had to throw the ball and hit the volleyball net post.  Each time you did this you got a point.
  • At snack we had a mini lesson about stories that start with actions. This is one way to 'hook' your reader and make them want to read more.
  • In math we learned about 3D shapes.  We made nets that turned into 3D shapes.  It was really fun and challenging!  We had to pay careful attention while doing this.  It took a lot of concentration.
  • In inquiry we went into our groups.  Some of us worked with tools in our maker space to begin building a house for our community.  Some of us developed research questions about our human rights focus so that when we are making our community, we can make sure we have our human rights are protected within our community.

Ask me about...

  • the differences between a pyramid and a prism.

Reminders...

  • Please return all field trip forms.
  • We are still accepting donations of magazines and building materials for our inquiry project.  We appreciate your support!

Our Day in Our Words!

Today we had an assembly, it was about the right to play! If you were a peace ambassador, you got to spend pretty much the whole day with Megan (the teacher who was running it). We learned games and learned to teach them.

When the peace ambassadors were working with Megan, we learned a bit about her past! She played competitive hockey, soccer and hockey. She's traveled all over the world and has worked as a news reporter.

For lunch, we stayed inside again. While we were inside we played basketball and a whole bunch of other excellent games.

During inquiry, Mr. Kai's group made one minute videos. The topic that we filmed about was being late for school. Our movie started midway outside next, we had to come running inside and then we had to show the teacher the late slip. After we finished filming, we got to edit our films with iMovie!

Today I tried my very best!

Ask Me About...

What I found interesting at the Right to Play assembly!
If you don't already know, ask me what it was about.
What did I learn today in inquiry?
Did I participate in the polar bear club?

Reminders!

Due to the weather, Winter Sports Day is postponed. Details will be forthcoming about when this will be.
We are looking for building materials for our inquiry project.
Please send any forms and report card envelopes back to school with your child.

Our Day in Our Words!

In Ignite, some of us created a story with loose parts, some of us played KABOOM (it's a fun math game). Other students have been filming their own movies around the school on iPads.

In Daily 5, we had our Words Their Way quiz.

We also had CCT, today we read a book with Mr. Simmons. We wrote about the main character named Melody and how she hears color and smells musics.

Today was a blue day and we got to stay inside, for movement break some of us went outside for the Polar Bear Club (those of us who have all of our winter gear get the choice to play outside).

In Inquiry, we made movies about kids that are late for school. The students that worked with Ms. Merilovich and Mrs. Danchuk for inquiry created research questions and looked for answers in a number of books. My question was: why is education important? I'm studying the human right of education.

Ask Me About!

What did I do for CCT?
What I did for the indoor recess?
What level am I in for swimming? (can you tell we're excited for our swimming lessons)

Reminders

Swimming forms are due!
We are sending home permission forms for our field trip.
If you have recently changed your email address please contact your child's responsibility teacher.
We sent out an email with important information today, if you didn't receive it please contact us!
